Impressions from DOMOTEX 2019
As the world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings wraps up, one thing is clear: patterns and designs reign supreme.
In the DOMOTEX 2019 wood flooring hall, exhibitors including flooring manufacturers, installers and layers from around the globe showcased their take on the “Moving Ahead” theme. Visitors were treated to a luxurious selection of natural wood and look-a-like products that featured old world charm with futuristic appeal.
So what does the LRT Hardwood team think will trend here in Canada?
Statement Designs & Patterns
Herringbone patterns a major theme this year. While this design obviously pays homage to historical examples, wider planks and bold colours are making for the case forward-thinking, high-contrast combinations. In fact, parquet flooring is making a major comeback as well!
Given the LRT team has been fielding an increase in requests for herringbone and chevron patterns, we believe this one is a surefire winner for those on-trend lovers. If you are seeking small or large geometric or graphic patterns, be sure to give us a call. We’d love to help bring your statement flooring to life.
Combination Flooring
The natural look and sustainability remains a common theme across all flooring product groups. Which is why it was not surprising to see designers and manufacturers playing up the benefits to combining materials. A beautiful example of two natural combinations is showcased in this Italian bathroom.
Less Oak, More Variety
While French Cut White Oak is a hugely popular and trending flooring choice here in Canada, the European market is also seeing the shift from oak to river-reclaimed wood and tropical woods (like beautiful olive wood) from trusted and certified sources. At DOMOTEX, there was great discussion around why it will eventually be impossible to meet the increasing demand for oak and why seeking out alternative sources and species is essential.
Bold Colours
Long gone are the days of a flat “brown” wood floor. Over the last few years, the flooring industry has seen a shift from darker to lighter finishes and wood floors are no exception. At DOMOTEX 2019, visitors were treated to a feast for the eyes, thanks to the rapidly growing market for bold colour finishes.
